The Council arranges annual thematic Research Seminars with 50—60 participants from all member states. These conferences rotate between the member states and are organized by the host country.
The themes of these seminars have included:
- Economic Crime, Organised Crime and Corruption
- Violence
- Crime Prevention
- Constructions and Reality
- Ideology and Empirical Research
- Theory and Methods in Criminology
- Alternatives to Imprisonment
- Drug Prevention Policy
- Deviance in Historical Light
Approximately every second year, the Council arranges Contact Seminars on specific topics with 15—20 Nordic criminologists and practitioners from specific areas of the administration of criminal justice. Such groups have included prosecuting authorities, judges, defence lawyers, prison authorities, and the police, as well as members of the judicial committees from the Nordic parliaments.
Reports containing the papers presented at Research and Contact Seminars are published in English or Scandinavian languages.
