On August 11th, 2005, at the XIV World Congress of Criminology, Swedish Minister of Justice Thomas Bodstrom announced a new prize which would promote the reduction of crime and the advancement of human rights, and honor outstanding achievements in both criminological research and the application of research results on the part of criminal justice practitioners.
This new prize, the Stockholm Prize in Criminology, will be awarded for the first time on June 16th, 2006 in the Stockholm City Hall.
In conjunction with the awarding of the Stockholm Prize in Criminology, the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention, with the International Society of Criminology, presents the First Annual Stockholm Prize Symposium, "Recognizing Knowledge to Reduce Crime and Injustice." The symposium will take place on the beautiful campus of Stockholm University.
