Loughborough University was ranked tenth in the UK in the Times Good University Guide of May 2004,and the Department of Social Sciences was ranked fifth in its field.

The vacancy arises from the retirement of a member of staff. This is a full-time, established post in the Department of Social Sciences.

The lecturer will join the criminology and social policy team within this interdisciplinary Department, which was awarded a rating of 5*A in the last R.A.E with all staff returned. Appointments are made with research and scholarly record or potential as the prime criterion. Teaching, contributing both to core and specialist modules, will be primarily to the undergraduate programme in Criminology and Social Policy, and to the postgraduate programme in Criminology and Criminal Justice. Supervision of research students may also be required. The Department has a strong commitment to interdisciplinary teaching across the social sciences. The lecturer will be expected to contribute fully to this work and to have a publications record or potential of the highest quality. No prior presumption is made about desirable specialist areas of research interest.
